Did You Know? PTSD Symptoms Often Require Treatment

July 3, 2011

I believe that PTSD sufferers think that their PTSD symptoms will magically go away if they only wait long enough.  To this, let me just say, “Aren’t you a little old to be believing in magic?” I’m not trying to be flippant but I am telling the truth.

In 2008, a study was conducted regarding PTSD symptoms and Vietnam returnees.  Many were completely surprised to find that the results of the study showed 20%-30% of those who returned from Vietnam reported that they had experienced or were still experiencing symptoms of PTSD.  Now let me remind you that the Vietnam War ended in the early 70’s — that is over 40 years ago.

Today, estimates indicate that 20% to 30% of our current troops will experience symptoms of PTSD, as well. It is estimated that 2,000,000 men and women will have served in these 2 wars. If the estimates are true that mean up to 600,000 will fall victim to PTSD.
