Alarming Statistics

What can you do to help?

  • Every 30 hours, there is a suicide among active military personnel.  For the past 3 years we have lost more troops to suicide than to combat.
  • Every 80 minutes, a veteran commits suicide in the US.  That’s 20 every day.  And for every successful suicide there are 20 unsuccessful      suicide attempts. That means there are, on average, 2 veteran suicides      every day and 40 attempted suicides every day among California veterans.

This is an alarming statistic that has continued to grow for the past 3 years.

Please help us help them. Please keep the phone number below handy and if you know of any veteran who is in crisis for any reason, please give them this number.  There is also a website at: www.veteranscrisisline.net/ where veterans can have a confidential chat on-line, or they can text  838255 to receive confidential support. All these services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

I’ve posted about this for quite some time.  It will only get worse when some of these people come home again and that is alarming.  Steer anyone you know toward help.  Airing concerns and feelings is a good first step.  This blog is always available and is free to anyone who wants to talk about their difficulties adjusting back into society.
