PTSD Statistics

August 25, 2011

PTSD is normally associated with military experiences but this is far from the truth.  Unfortunately we will not be able to total the true amount of PTSD/ from this generation’s wars because our current involvement in these Wars masks some of the results.  That is, many are reluctant to complain because of the stigma that the sufferer feels is involved with complaining or of being categorized as “crazy”.  It was only relatively recently that the Vietnam war PTSD casualties were calculated.  We will have to wait until all these wars are over and everyone returns and statistics are gathered to figure out the toll of PTSD casualties and this could take years.  However, many predict an increase of PTSD violent crimes/ associated with the returnees.

Here are some sobering statistic all of which may have some tie-ins to PTSD.  A portion of these are as result of PTSD involvement or may lead to PTSD for the recipient.

In 2007 there were more than three million child abuse reports and allegations (involving about 5.8 million children) were made in the United States.  There is a link between child abuse and PTSD/.

According to information provided by the U.S. Department of Justice, more than 1.4 million violent crimes are committed in the United States each year.  There is a relationship between those involved in violent crimes and PTSD.  The crimes that comprise the preceding violent crime statistic include murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

None of these statistics include unreported acts of violence, nor do they incorporate other traumatic events such as automobile accidents, plane crashes and natural disasters.

There needs to be a safe place for every victim and PTSD sufferers to tell their story in a safe and non-judgemental environment.  If you, or someone you know has experienced an incident direct them to our web site.  We will post their story unedited and uncensored.

We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
