The Seal Who Shot Bin Laden-PTSD

February 12, 2013

There is a new article available, where the Navy Seal who actually killed Osama Bin Laden is interviewed.  This is a not a new issue that is being addressed but maybe one that is a bit more famous or infamous, as it is.  This anonymous Navy Seal admits to being the one who actually shot Bin Laden in Bin Laden’s compound.

This nameless Seal actually has left the service at this time and has found that he doesn’t know what to do with himself.  His heavy training in the military was in killing.  Not a great call for this skill on the outside unless, I guess, you can hook up with the Mafia or something. I should’nt make light of this but it’s true.

This is a person who was very well trained and obviously did his job extremely well.  But now what?  There is a passage in the interview where this assassin is sitting at a table with a bottle of pills sitting in front of him and his loaded weapon.  His wife discovers him and confronts him and he admits that he was contemplating suicide.  The most famous sharpshooter in our Military, ready to kill himself because he was lost.

Is it any wonder that many others, to a lesser degree, are feeling the effects of PTSD and do not know what to do about it?  There needs to be changes made to the system of leaving the service and adjusting back into civilian life.  This incident, hopefully, will point a spotlight on PTSD and its ramifications.
